Who will be the champion of La Liga? Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid?
Barcelona; is Messi still hungry enough? Is Suarez still the star striker? Too many Brazilians? Where is their own youth? The heart of the team now plays in Japan. There’s so many things we could say. We think there are too many question marks for a title this year.
Real Madrid; The shocker of the year: Ronaldo to Juventus! Ramos coming back from holiday late. As their big purchase, a goal keeper and an 18-year-old Brazilian. Modric wants to leave. A new trainer that has been under the loop since the world cup. There are so many things to say. We think it’ll be another year without title for Real Madrid.
Atletico Madrid; Griezmann stays! Lemar from AS Monaco is coming. Another 5 solid purchases. Still has a star goalie. A trainer that always demands the most out of his team. Too much to talk about, really. We think they have a solid shot at the championship.
Can other teams still surprise us? We don’t think so. Valencia were probably be the best of the rest, once again. Villarreal, Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla FC. These are all teams that could have a decent season, but won’t end higher than a fourth place. It is nice that Santi Carzola will be playing for Villarreal again. Just like it’s nice how Sergio Canales ended up back with Real Betis.
Who will be relegated? Can Girona survive another season like this? This is generally hard in the second season. How will the newcomers do? Historically, these have struggled as well. Huesca was the big surprise last year. First time in La Liga. A stadium that fits 5500 spectators. Extremely low budget. We don’t expect much. Rayo Vallecano and Valladolid haven’t done much about their selection. Will that be enough to manage? We doubt it.
All in all, we’re wondering if Spain is losing its edge. It’s possible. The World cup may have been a sign. The Premier League awaits, but there is more than enough to enjoy in the meantime.
